William S. "Bill" Herb, Sr.

William S. “Bill” Herb, Sr., 84, of Camp Hill, passed away the morning of Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at the UPMC West Shore Hospital. 

He was born on Saturday, January 13, 1940 in Somerset, PA, a son of the late Clayton Ernest and Maxine Sipe Herb. He married Barbara A. Solt on September 1, 1962 in Palmerton.

Bill was a 1958 graduate of Somerset Area High School, where he was a member of the undefeated football team his senior year. He then graduated from Gettysburg College in 1962, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in physical education. Bill then completed the physical therapy program at the University of Pittsburgh. He worked as a physical therapist at Polyclinic Medical Center in Harrisburg, retiring in 2002. Bill was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church Camp Hill. 

Bill loved spending time at the family cabin in Somerset, PA, where he dedicated countless hours to maintaining the property. He was known to enjoy tinkering around on his lawn mowers and watching the deer, turkeys, and black bear from the cabin picture window. Bill hunted there his entire life and was an excellent “host” to annual deer camp trips. 

He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates, and University of Pittsburgh. 

Bill was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather; rarely missing any of his grandchildren’s sporting events. His classic “fist bump” when saying goodbye to family will be forever missed. 

In addition to his wife of 62 years, Barb Herb of Camp Hill, he is survived by two sons, William S. (Pamela) Herb, Jr. of Shippensburg and Gregory L. (Nancy) Herb of Camp Hill; five grandchildren, Derek C. (Kirsty), Dylan W. (Keri), and Brock A. Herb, all of Shippensburg, and Clayton E. and Elizabeth G. Herb, both of Camp Hill; and three great-grandchildren, Blair, Colson, and Mallory Herb. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two siblings, Ernest S. “Ernie” Herb and Sharyn S. Herb. 

A private memorial service for the family was held at Trinity Lutheran Church Camp Hill.
