William A. Gould

William A. Gould, 84, of Shippensburg, passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at the Chambersburg Hospital.

He was born on December 3, 1941 in Clearfield, PA, son of the late William L. and Edna E. Passmore Gould.

William was a 1959 graduate of Ferndale-Dale High School, Johnstown PA. He achieved his undergraduate degree from Elizabethtown College (1963), and his Masters (1965) and Doctorate from Penn State University (1971). He began his career at Shippensburg State College in 1966, as a mathematics professor before moving to the position of Director of the Computer Center, which he held until retiring from Shippensburg University in 2002. William was a member of the Cumberland County Library System Board, Shippensburg Library Board of Directors, and the Shippensburg Library Board of Trustees. He also served on the Shippensburg School Board for 17 years, serving most of those years as President. William was a member of the Middle Spring Presbyterian Church, serving in various leadership positions within the church.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Priscilla M. Gould of Shippensburg, PA; 5 children, Robert A. (Susan) Gould of Reston, VA, Kenneth L. (Shaomin) Gould of Reston, VA, Sharon G. (Justin) Lawrence of Shippensburg, PA, James P. (Kimberly) Gould of South Riding, VA, and Jason A. (Kelly) Gould of Annandale, VA; 12 grandchildren, Nathan, Anna (David) Harrop, Josh Gould, Hudson, Josselyn, Lara Gould, Senan Lawrence, Grace, Gavin Gould, Jacob, Hannah, and Benjamin Gould.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. at Middle Spring Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Middle Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
