William Patrick “Bill” Diehl, 72, of Clearfield, departed this life on Saturday, May 17, 2025.
He was born on April 22, 1953, in Philadelphia, a son of the late Raymond and Margaret (Cronin) Lockwood. Bill was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War era, enlisting on October 14, 1970, and honorably discharged on May 8, 1972.
Bill worked as a musician throughout his life.
He had a life-long love of music, both writing and playing. Bill was a wonderful and gifted musician, who focused mainly on guitar, but could play just about any instrument that he touched. He was also an early adopter of modern technology and was involved with computers for most of his life.
Bill is survived by his son, Theodore Diehl and wife Crissy of Shippensburg; his daughter, Dawn Latchford of Shippensburg; six grandchildren, Carlie Black, Haileigh Diehl, Destiny Kinsler, Dalton Lynch, Dakota Martin, and Cory Latchford; nine great grandchildren, Peyton Marpoe, Colsen Black, Greyson Black, Nova Martin, Bentley Martin, Jaxon Martin, Shelby Martin, Kylee Kinsler, and Lilly Kinsler; siblings, Tony Diehl and Laurie Williams-Brown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by two brothers, Walt and Jeff Cronin and a sister, Patricia Lockwood.
Bill’s love knew no boundaries, and the role of grandparent and a fatherly-figure extended above traditional ties. Several who came to know Bill as “Pop-Pop” or Bill in a fatherly role were drawn in by his open heart, gentle wisdom, and unwavering kindness. To these individuals, Eric Baker, Josselynn Baker, Kristopher Baker, Amy Baer, Louie Baer, and Kevin Churchill, he offered the same warmth, encouragement, and unconditional love that he gave to family. There are many more that knew him in this light. These cherished relationships speak volumes about the kind of person Bill was — someone who made everyone feel seen, valued, and loved.
His memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor Phil Byers will officiate.
