Steven Raymond McIlveen, 78, went home to be with his Lord, passing peacefully in his sleep at Transitions Healthcare Shook Home, on the morning of Sunday, February 8, 2026.
He was born in Warren, OH, to Margarite D. and Stephen A. Vasil on July 14, 1947. He later changed his name to that of his step-father, Howard W. McIlveen, who was good to him and only had daughters.
Steve is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Anita M. (Stenger) McIlveen and their four children, Steve McIlveen, II of Raleigh, NC, Penny Vaughn and husband Erick, Matthew McIlveen and wife Tammy, and Amy Diaz and husband Gilberto, all of Chambersburg; and six grandchildren, Courtney, Ryan, Ericka, Brandon, Dylan, and Jaxon.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-father.
Steve graduated from Geneva High School, Geneva, OH, in 1966. He attended Eastern Pilgrim College, Allentown, PA; Biblical Life Institute, Freeport, PA; and Salem Bible College, Salem, OH.
He served as pastor of four Brethren in Christ Churches for over eighteen years: Canoe Creek B.I.C, Hollidaysburg, PA; Adney Gap B.I.C., near Roanoke, VA; Fairview B.I.C., New Cumberland, PA; and Altoona B.I.C., Altoona. Steve was a member of the Chambersburg Brethren in Christ Church (Mission Hill) for thirty-five years, but was recently attending Bethel Assembly of God, before his health deteriorated.
Steve later worked as a nursing attendant at Menno Haven and Chambersburg Hospital for over twenty years, and drove a school van for Gift Transportation for two years.
Steve will be remembered for his love of preaching God’s Word, his love of the Steelers, his sense of humor, and his hearty laugh.
His funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at the Air Hill Brethren in Christ Church, 7041 Cumberland Highway, Chambersburg, PA 17202, with Rev.
