Stephen G. Hartman, 79, of Chambersburg, departed this life on the afternoon of Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at the Mercy House, Chambersburg.

He was born on April 12, 1946, in Buckhannon, WV, a son of the late Glenn and Marietta (McCray) Hartman. Steve was a 1968 graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College, earning a bachelor’s degree in finance. He married Linda (Mellott) Hartman on October 11, 2011, at their home.

Steve worked as a project manager on infrastructure and engineering development for the State of West Virginia his entire working life. He was a member of the Cumberland Valley Lodge #315 F. & A.M., Shippensburg, and was their oldest Worshipful Master in lodge history. He was also a member of the Chambersburg Country Club. Steve enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer, and loved cats. He was well known for having a great love of his native state of West Virginia and West Virginia Mountaineer sports. Steve was also an avid fan of bluegrass music and played the guitar in several bands throughout his life.

In addition to his wife of fifteen years, Linda, he is survived by his stepdaughter, Kendra Shoemaker Hayes and husband David Easterly of Washington D.C.; his brother, Gary Hartman and wife Stacie of Seth, WV; his niece, Erica Gourley and husband Chris of Grove City, OH; a great nephew; and many cousins.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents.

His celebration of life with Masonic rites bestowed will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor Bonnie Hoffman will officiate. Interment will be private. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday afternoon at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter at 5051 Letterkenny Rd W, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
