Ruby S. Fortna

Ruby S. Fortna, 94, of Shippensburg, passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2026 at Celebration Villa of Shippensburg.

Born in Newburg, July 2, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Emory E. and Edna E. (Heishman) Barrick.

She was a faithful member of the Lurgan United Brethren Church and a former member of the Franklin County Farm Women Group #3. She enjoyed sewing, reading, cooking, and baking. She also enjoyed visiting and spending time in New Port Ritchey, Florida.

Ruby is survived by four children; Barry (Nancy) Fortna of Derwood, MD, Deborah (Henry) Haglen of New Port Ritchey, FL, Wanda (Robert) McCoy of Newville, and Clayton (Graig) Fortna of Philadelphia; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Fortna on November 11, 1993; and two sisters, Opal Grove and Esther Cohick.

Per Ruby’s wishes, there will be no public viewing, visitation, or service. She will be laid to rest privately at Otterbein Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lugan United Brethren Church, 7900 Roxbury Rd., Shippensburg, PA 17257.
