Robert Hammond “Bob” Smith, 88, of Shippensburg, passed away peacefully the morning of Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at the Chambersburg Hospital.
He was born on August 20, 1936 in Germantown, PA, a son of the late Anthony Hammond and Elsie Cloud Yocum Smith.
A graduate of Shippensburg High School and Shippensburg University, Bob taught science for 32 years in Ardmore, PA, where he also served as both a baseball and football coach. He was also was a United States Veteran in the Naval Division of the National Guard. Bob was a member of the Durff-Kuhn VFW Post #6168, Hub City Club, and past chairman of the board of the Minnequa Social Club.
Bob was an avid fisherman and hunter, who was an insatiable reader with a great sense of humor. He also loved music and enjoyed playing his guitar.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Priscilla M. “Pat” Smith; one daughter, Robin L. (Robert) Crawford; grandson, Kelly (Arcadia) Davies; granddaughters, Kelly Hundley, Molly, Nicole, and Lindsay Crawford; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Victoria Hundley and Christine Smith.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg with Pastor Brian Markle officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 862, Carnegie, PA 15106 or any charity for animals.
