Robert E. Piper, 87, of Orrstown, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at the Orrstown Personal Care Home.
Born Sunday, May 10, 1936 in Amberson, Franklin County, he was a son of the late Thomas A. and Mary Eckenrode Piper.
He was a 1954 graduate of Fannett-Metal High School. Robert married the love of his life, Iva Jean Pyne, on April 2, 1960.
He retired from Roadway Express in Hagerstown after 27 years of service. He also worked on the family farm, Esso on the PA Turnpike where he met his wife, De Rose and American Can. Robert served his country as a member of the Army National Guard of Pennsylvania for eight years.
Robert was a long-time member of the Newburg First Church of God. He was an avid hunter, loved to travel, enjoyed gardening and loved and cherished his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
He is survived by one daughter, Sondra (Jeff) Rebuck and one son, Steven (Amy) Piper, all of Newburg; five grandchildren, Aaron (Natasha) Rebuck, Orrstown, Marissa (Dalton) Wolff, Shippensburg, Ethan (Liana) Piper, Upper Strasburg, Emmy (Trevor) Brenize, Newville, and Ellie Piper, Newburg; three great-grandchildren, Payton Rebuck, Gettysburg, Emerson and Piper Wolff, Shippensburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Iva Jean Pyne Piper, who passed away February 25, 2021; and four siblings, Thomas E. Piper, Donald E. Piper, Mary Louise Piper Hoover, and Harmon G. Piper.
A celebration of Robert’s life will be held Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 11:00 am in the Newburg First Church of God, with Chaplain Megan Gustafson, officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:30 am until the time of the service in the church. Burial will be private at a later date.
