Ray Eugene Mummert, 81, of Shippensburg passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 16, 2026.

Born March 29, 1945 in Chambersburg, PA, he was a son of the late Lloyd and Isabell (Flohr) Mummert.

His life was guided by his faith in God. He was happiest when doing repairs or making things for those he loved. He was self employed in his handyman business. Always someone who took care of things himself, Ray was a man defined by his work ethic. He served in the Army.

He also taught Sunday school and started tape ministry for shut ins at Prince Street United Brethren Church. He would go hiking for a week at a time with the youth group. He enjoyed hunting and spending time at the cabin where he appreciated the quietness of the mountain. He would volunteer on Wednesday’s to help restore The Fort at Fort Loudoun.

Ray is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marie (Kendig) Mummert, whom he married April 3, 1965; two daughters, Amanda Kay (Mark) Johann, Erica Rhea (Leroy) Strite; two granddaughters, Sabrina (Aaron) Trivett and Casey (Anthony) Hoover; 3 grandsons Waylin, Wyatt, and Wynstin (Zoe) Strite; two great grandchildren, Andrew and Savannah Trivett; and a sister, Linda (Charlie) Hess.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Forrester and a nephew, Eric Hess.

A celebration of Ray’s life will be held Friday, April 24, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Prince St. United Brethren Church. Pastor John W. Shadle will officiate. Ray will be laid to rest privately at Parklawns Memorial Gardens with military honors conducted by The Minutemen of the American Legion Post #223. A viewing will be held Thursday, April 23, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. A visitation will also be held from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday, at the Church.
