Maxine E. Mohn, 93, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the morning of Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital.
She was born on February 6, 1930, in Greene Township, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late John H. and Catharine A. (Rosenberry) Hall. Maxine was a 1947 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School and a 1948 graduate of Thompson College, Harrisburg.
Upon graduating, Maxine worked for the Department of the Navy, in Washington D.C., for a few years. After moving back to Shippensburg, she was a devoted homemaker, raising three sons. Maxine eventually came to work at Shippensburg University, in the Office of Public Relations and Information, for eighteen years, retiring in December of 1993.
Maxine was a long-time member of the Messiah United Methodist Church, Shippensburg. She was also a past member of the Shippensburg Civic Club and volunteered for many years in the gift shop at the Chambersburg Hospital. In years past, Maxine enjoyed taking bus trips with the local A.A.R.P. group, and traveling with her mother and friends. She also enjoyed playing cards (especially Bridge) and was a member of several card clubs for many decades.
In her free time Maxine enjoyed cooking, especially baking pies and cakes of all kinds. She also liked watching for birds, cardinals were her favorite. She was an avid reader and in her latter years, enjoyed listening to audio books from the public library. Maxine dearly loved her family, including many pets that she had over her lifetime.
She is survived by two sons, Jeffrey L. Mohn and wife Lessa and Stephen E. Mohn, both of Shippensburg; daughter-in-law, Karen C. Mohn of Shippensburg; granddaughter, Laurie A. Kaufman and husband Matthew of Chambersburg; three grandsons, Bryan G. Mohn and wife Breanna of Toms River, NJ, Justin T. Mohn of Dillsburg, and Joshua L. Mohn of Philadelphia; three great granddaughters, Katie, Ellie, and Maggie Kaufman, all of Chambersburg; and a great grandson, Corbin Mohn of Toms River, NJ.
In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by a son, Gregory L. Mohn; and her maternal grandmother, Flo Nye.
Her memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. Dr. Francis H. Norton will officiate. Interment will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday morning at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Coy Public Library, Shippensburg.
