Mary S. Rotz, 84, formerly of Shippensburg, late of Carlisle, departed this life the evening of Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at Claremont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on July 4, 1941 in Pond Bank, a daughter of the late Margaret McNew Evenson. She married Merle A. Rotz on November 9, 1963 in Hagerstown, MD. He preceded her in death on January 16, 2025.
Mary worked several years at the former Stanley Company before retiring as a teacher’s aide at Shippensburg University Head Start Program. She also provided in-home child care throughout the years.
Mary was a dedicated and committed member of TOPS (Take off Pounds Sensibly), where she was a former treasurer. She was also a former board member of the Newburg Borough Council. She found joy in walking, reading, and tending to her garden. She also loved traveling anytime she had the chance. Above all, her greatest happiness came from her daughters and grandchildren – they were truly her world.
She is survived by three daughters, Sherry Rotz-Smith of Shippensburg, Sheila (Delbert) Riley of Harrisburg, and Yvette (Edward) Piccolo of Carlisle; six grandchildren, Seth Smith, Wynter Smith, Sean (Amanda) Piccolo, Trustin Riley, Shannon Piccolo, and Elisha Riley; and one great-granddaughter, Emilia Piccolo.
Her funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg with Pastor John Byers officiating. Burial will follow at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
