Marjorie H. (Hopkins) Shoap, 94, of Shippensburg, passed away the evening of Thursday, April 24, 2025 at Chambers Pointe Health Care Center.
She was born on Saturday, January 24, 1931 in Altoona, PA, Blair County, the daughter of the late Clarence J. and Margaret E. (Gaunter) Hopkins.
Marjorie attended Shippensburg University and went on to be a library technician for 24 years at the University library. She loved to volunteer and eventually ran a licensed daycare in her earlier years. In 1948, she worked as a switchboard operator at the phone company. Marjorie also worked as a PIAA official for a woman’s intramural basketball team. With her love of sports, she enjoyed bowling until she was 80 years old. Marjorie was a member of the Shippensburg First Church of God for 85 years, where she attended regularly and made many friends through the years.
She is survived by two children, Gerald E. “Jerry” Shoap and wife Janice of Sunset Beach, NC, and Jo Ellen Koser and husband Frank of Shippensburg; four grandchildren, CJ Ezell and husband Lynn Witmer, Melissa Mader and husband Bryan, Jeremy Shoap, and Jordan Shoap and wife Katie; seven great-grandchildren, Paige Ezell, Aizik Shoap, Grayson Shoap, Carter Mader, Blake Shoap, Reece Mader, and Lillian Shoap; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, L. Gerald Shoap; stepmother, Ethel (Spangler) Hopkins; and one brother, Kenneth Hopkins.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Shippensburg First Church of God with Pastor Gary Hornbaker officiating. Burial will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be held Thursday, May 1, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
