Maria Eliza Vazquez Gonzalez

Maria Eliza Vasquez Gonzalez, 80, of Carlisle, departed this life on the evening of Friday, September 26, 2025.

She was born on November 21, 1944, in Utuado, Puerto Rico, a daughter of the late Jorge and Maria D. (Gonzalez) Vazquez.

Maria worked for the Department of Social Services in Puerto Rico, for thirty years, retiring in 2002. She was a former member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Chambersburg. Maria loved to dance and enjoyed cooking for others. She was known for her delicious pasteles.

Maria is survived by her daughter, Maria D. Carpintero Vazquez of Ocala FL; three grandchildren, Stephanie M. Melendez Carpintero of Chambersburg, Jonathan E. Melendez Carpintero of Laredo, TX, and Christian A. Melendez Carpintero of Pittsburgh; three great grandchildren, Joel Melendez, Alanys Lara, and Knox Melendez; a sister, Zulma M. Vazquez of Utuado, Puerto Rico; two nieces, Mariely and Zulmary Soler, and one nephew, Egberto De Jesus.

In addition to her parents, Maria was preceded in death by her husband Gonzalo Carpintero, who died on June 27, 1984.

Her funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. There will be no public viewing, visitation, or funeral service at this time. A memorial service will be held at a future date and time in the Puerto Rico Cemetery, Bayamon, P.R., where she will be laid to rest alongside her late husband.
