Louise I. “Sis” Stouffer, 97, formerly of Lurgan, late of Chambersburg, departed this life on the morning of Sunday, April 19, 2026, at her daughter’s home.
She was born on October 29, 1928, in Roxbury, a daughter of the late Wilbur A. and Sadie R. (Mackey) Shope.
Early in life, Louise worked at the former Shirt Craft Co., Shippensburg, but spent the majority of her career working at the former Stanley Co., Chambersburg, from where she retired, after thirty-five years of employment.
Louise was a long-time member of the Lurgan United Brethren Church, where she learned to play piano when she was in her seventies. In her free time, she enjoyed crocheting, gardening, and working outside around her home. After her retirement, Louise became a caregiver to elderly friends and folks in the local community.
She is survived by two daughters, Joyce D. Thomas and husband Charles Jr., of Lemoyne and Sandra K. Rhine of Chambersburg; her son, Dennis L. Stouffer and wife Lucinda of Mercersburg; seven grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; one sister, Sara Baker of Chambersburg; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by two brothers, George “Sharks” Shope and Wilbur Shope; and two sisters, Ella Mae “Pete” Garman and Charlotte McDonald.
Her graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, April 24, 2026, in the Mongul Cemetery. Pastor Art Page will officiate. Viewing will be private.
