John G. Strayer

John G. Strayer, 90, of Shippensburg, passed away the evening of Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at the Chambersburg Hospital.

He was born on Tuesday, August 7, 1934 in Shippensburg, PA, Cumberland County, a son of the late William and Bernice Ott Strayer.

John worked as a forklift operator for Knouse Foods.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Doris Gough Strayer of Shippensburg; one son, Carl (Kathy) Strayer of Shippensburg; four daughters, Karen (Danny) Orndorff of Shippensburg, Tammy (William) Johnston of Shippensburg, Kimberly (Purnell) Dressler of Millerstown, and Jennifer (Paul) Fahnestock of Shippensburg; seven grandchildren, Steven (Carrie) Strayer, Scott (Sarah) Johnston, Ashley Rebok, Krystle (Kevin) McNew, Hollie (Matt) Adams, Amanda (Tyler) Hutchinson, and Stacey (Jodie) Varner; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren and one on the way.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven siblings, William Strayer, Jr., Paul Strayer, Glen Strayer, Galen E. “Bud” Strayer, Nellie Hockenberry, Beda Johnson, and Patricia Starliper.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Per John’s wishes, there will be no public viewing, visitation, or service.
