John W. Reed, Sr., 94, formally of Shippensburg, passed away the morning of Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at the Shook Home, Chambersburg.
He was born on Thursday, June 30, 1927 in Shippensburg, a son of the late Gordon W. and Mary S. (Hippensteel) Reed, Sr.
John was a 1946 graduate of the Shippensburg High School and worked as an operating engineer at Letterkenny Army Depot. He was a member of the Messiah United Methodist Church and the Shippensburg Coin Club. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, antiques, and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Joan S. (Shearer) Reed; one son, John W. (Pamela) Reed, Jr. of Chambersburg; three grandchildren, Leah Reed, Jade Reed, and Brock Reed; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Gordon W. Reed, Jr., Richard L. Reed, and Donald E. Reed.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. There will be no public viewing or visitation at this time. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, February 20, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Chaplain Vernon D. Isner will officiate.
