John Robert Gribble of Howard, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, October 14th, 2024, surrounded by family at the age of 87. He was born on March 11, 1937, in Chambersburg, PA, to the late John A. and Lenore J. (Miller) Gribble of Shippensburg, PA. He is survived by his daughters, Leilani (Brian)Vaughn of Shippensburg, PA, Lynne (Barry) Ernst of State College, PA, Kristin Hebe of Mechanicsburg, PA, Casey Gribble of Bellefonte, PA, and Samantha (Jordan) Parks of Bellefonte, PA; sons, John B. (Kelly) Gribble of Dillsburg, PA, Matthew (Kathy) Gribble of Gardners, PA, David (Blake) Gribble of Bellefonte, PA, C. Tucker Gribble of Ann Arbor, MI, Forrest Gribble of Atlanta, GA, Harrison Gribble of Julian, PA, and S. Walker Gribble of Howard, PA; 11 grandchildren, Daniel Reynolds, John R. Gribble, Michael Gribble, Julia Reynolds, Liam Lawler, Owen Gribble, Raylin Gribble, Remi Snyder, Maci Snyder, Dash Gribble and Ridge Parks; five great-grandchildren, Elisa Perry, Landon Gribble, Micah Reynolds, Luke Gribble and Oliva Gribble; and siblings, Garry Gribble of Kansas City, MO, Gretchen Hafer of Chambersburg, PA, Nick Gribble of Fayetteville, PA, Susan Allison of Charlottesville, VA, Sharon Durff of Walnut Bottom, PA, and J. Michael Gribble of Carlisle, PA. John was preceded in death by his parents John A. Gribble and Lenore J. Gribble, his brother William N. Gribble, and a Grandson, Madison J. Perry. John was a lifelong learner, continuously challenging himself and expanding his horizons. After graduating from Shippensburg High School in 1955, where he excelled in football and wrestling, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at 17, serving as a Communications Technician for three years before being honorably discharged. He then used the GI Bill to attend Shippensburg University, graduating in 1969 with a bachelor's degree in accounting. John went on to have a successful career in the Information Technology and Education industries, retiring in 2015 as the Business Manager at Bald Eagle Area School District. John was an active outdoorsman, cherishing his time spent hunting, fishing, running, and walking. He was an avid reader, known to be found with his nose in a John Grisham book. John was known around his little hidden gem of Howard as he looked forward to his daily walks where he relished in the beauty of his surroundings. He cherished spending time with his large, close-knit family, passing on his love of running and the natural world to his children and grandchildren. John was also deeply involved in his community, serving on the Howard Borough Council and the Howard Lions Club. He was a member of the Howard United Methodist Church. John's zest for life and unwavering positive attitude inspired all who knew him. His presence and humor brought light and joy to many lives. A celebration of John's life will be held on Saturday, October 19th at Singer-Kader-Neff Funeral Home, 135 West Main Street, Howard, PA, 16841. Visitation will take place at 10:00 a.m. with service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Private burial will be held at Schencks Cemetery immediately following the service. Our families are deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support.
