John L. Barner, 85, of Shippensburg, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 21, 2025.

He was born on Monday, March 11, 1940 in Shippensburg, PA, Franklin County, a son of the late George H. and Katherine Fitzgerald Barner, Sr.

John graduated from Shippensburg High School. After being honorably discharged from the United States Air Force, John made a career working in the lab at Chambersburg Hospital.

Johnny cherished living his entire life in the house his father and grandfather built in Shippensburg. He was the caretaker for his father for many years there and shared stories of many happy memories with his grandfather and the rest of his family.

In recent years, his neighbors had become family. He looked forward to talking with Bob Ocker, Scott Cooper, and Don Dickinson regularly.

He had many pets over the years and will be missed by his current cat, Rascal.

John was a man of faith and is now resting in peace free of all pain and in the joy of the ever-after.

He is survived by one sister, Betty L. Bernard of Carlisle; seven nephews and nieces, Paul (Eunice) Barner, Gary Barner, Barbara Barner, Kathy Lively, Linda Shoemaker (caretaker), Steven S. Bernard, and Susan I. Fairchild; one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Barner; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by two brothers, George H. Barner, Jr. and Larry Barner.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. There will be no public viewing, visitation, or service. John will be laid to rest in the Spring Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers or donations the family would like to ask that you consider taking some time to call/visit relatives or friends you have lost touch with over the years. May you feel blessings in your reconnections.
