Jerry Steven Porter

Jerry Steven Porter, 69, of Shippensburg, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at his home.

Jerry was a 1975 graduate of Carlisle High School. He served in the United States Marine Corp. during the Cold War and was of the Protestant Faith.

He was a member, past Commander, and served with the Minutemen honor guard of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223, Shippensburg.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 38 years, Doris Jean Smyser Porter, whom he married September 26, 1987; one son, Justin C. (Jessica) Porter, Shippensburg; one daughter, Sara J. (Shawn) Starner, Newville; three grandchildren, Jaxson and Jayci Porter, and Abby Beidel, all of Shippensburg; four sisters, Terry Porter, Mt. Holly Springs, Sherry Alexander, Shippensburg, Kerry (Bill) Ocker, Newville, and Heidi (Bruce) Baitsell, Mt. Holly Springs; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an honorary son, Keith Alexander; and a brother in-law, Kenny Alexander.

A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, August 8, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium Inc., with Chaplain James Clever officiating. Burial will be private. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday, at the funeral home. Military honors will be conducted by the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223 Minutemen immediately following the service in the funeral home parking lot.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223, 100 Dykeman Road, Shippensburg, PA 172576.
