Jean E. Flewelling

April 3, 1934 – November 2, 2025

Jean Ellen (Holtry) Flewelling of Newville, PA, passed away at Mercy House in Chambersburg, PA, on November 2, 2025. Her spirit remained strong even as her body succumbed to the devastation of several strokes. Jean was born on April 3, 1934, the youngest daughter of William H. and Curvey E. (Myers) Holtry. She and her husband, Harold E., attend the Ridge Covenant Brethren Church. On October 24, 2025, Jean and Harold celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by eleven siblings: Helen Irene Holtry, Clarence Holtry, Mable (Holtry) Vaughn, Grace (Holtry) Washinger, Edith (Holtry) Wright, Ross Holtry, Leslie Holtry, Edna (Holtry) Hoch, George Holtry, Bruce Holtry, and MaryJane (Holtry) Pisle.

Jean has four children: Eugene (Stephenie) Flewelling, New Holland, PA; Beverly Alexander (Larry Long), Shippensburg, PA; Connie (Michael) Correll, Sherrard, IL; and Galen “Buck” (Wanda) Flewelling, Carlisle, PA.

She has eight grandchildren: Jodi McCleaf, Shippensburg, PA; Jerome Flewelling, Crown Point, IN; Randy Clendening, Shippensburg, PA; Brian Flewelling, Ephrata, PA; Dawn Barajas, Muscatine, IA; Sylvia Chestnut, Newville, PA; Jamie Steinour, Huntsdale, PA; and Ashley Ketterer, Etters, PA.

She also has twenty-three great-grandchildren, of whom three are deceased, and six great-great-grandchildren.

Jean was a woman strong in spirit, hardworking, and capable. She retired from the Greif Company in Shippensburg and then worked for many years as a short-order cook at the Ceddia Union Building (CUB) of Shippensburg University.

A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Ridge Covenant Brethren Church cemetery.
