Janet L. Hockenberry

Janet L. Hockenberry, 88, of Shippensburg, passed away the afternoon of Thursday, May 28, 2026 at the Chambersburg Hospital.

She was born on February 10, 1938 in Shippensburg, a daughter of the late Harry S. and Lois E. Chamberlin Ocker. She married K. LeRoy Hockenberry on November 10, 1956 at Hagerstown First Church of God. He preceded her in death on March 10, 2016.

Janet was a faithful member of Newburg First Church of God. After graduating high school, Janet attended beauty school and worked a couple local salons before owning and operating her own salon for many years. Following her career as a beautician, she worked at the former Greif Company. Above all else, Janet loved and cherished spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by two sons, Jeff (Kris) Hockenberry of Shippensburg, and Randy Hockenberry of Newburg; three grandchildren, Nickie Fickel, Eric Hockenberry, and Heather Hockenberry; four great-grandchildren; and four siblings, Carol Gardner of Shippensburg, Barb Frazier of Virginia, Larry (Vickie) Ocker of Shippensburg, and Vickie (Rick) Coldsmith of Shippensburg.

In addition to her parents and spouse, she was preceded in death by one brother, Don Ocker.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at the Newburg First Church of God with Pastor Megan Gustafson officiating. Burial will follow at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
