Jacquelyn Ann Brechbiel Hoover, born July 14, 1938, in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, was the beloved daughter of Benjamin Walter Brechbiel and Thelma Wenger Brechbiel.

She graduated from Shippensburg Area High School in 1956 and went on to complete her nursing education as a 1959 graduate of the Washington County Hospital School of Nursing in Hagerstown, Maryland.

Jacquelyn began her extensive nursing career in Dr. Albert Freeman’s office in Shippensburg, later moving on to serve at the Chambersburg Hospital where she worked diligently as an ER nurse and later as an oncology nurse, dedicating many years until her retirement in 1999. Post retirement, her commitment to caring for others continued in a gastroenterologist’s office.

A woman of deep faith, Jacquelyn was an active member of the Shippensburg Covenant Brethren Church, formerly known as the Shippensburg Church of the Brethren, where she lovingly served the Lord in countless ways and capacities.

She was devoted to her family, sharing a lifetime of love with her husband, Alan R. Hoover, whom she married June 6, 1959, and who passed away June 28, 2023. Jacquelyn is survived by their son, Joseph (Christy) Hoover of New Cumberland; and three daughters, Ann (Don) Baker of Chambersburg, Linda (Craig) Husted of Lancaster, and Julie (Joel Thevoz) Harnish of Annapolis, Maryland. She was a proud grandmother to ten grandchildren: Daniel (Ali) Baker, Kara (Zach Beaver) Baker, Morgan Husted, Taylor (Oscar Fonseca) Husted, Grant Husted, Maggie (Richard Fuentes) Hoover, Cameron (Aida Pastor Ten) Harnish, Cole Harnish, Jade Harnish, and Quinn Harnish; and four great-grandchildren.

Jacquelyn cherished time spent traveling, sharing trips with her family, reading, and volunteering at Spirit Trust Lutheran, during her later years, spreading warmth and kindness to all who knew her.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Shippensburg Covenant Brethren Church with the Rev. Harold E. Yeager officiating. The Mason Dixon Nurse Honor Guard will conduct honors at the start of the service. Visitation will immediately follow the service at church. Private burial will be held in the Otterbein Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shippensburg Covenant Brethren Church, 253 E. Garfield Street, Shippensburg, PA 17257.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium Inc.
