Jack Elwood Nye, 85, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at home surrounded by family.
He was born on July 9, 1939 in Shippensburg and was the son of the late Jay Wilson Nye and Ethel Maude Burkholder Nye.
Jack was a 1957 graduate of Shippensburg High School and attended West Chester State College. He started out as a dry cleaning delivery man for Town Cleaners, then 33 years as a machinist at SKF and finally 23 years at Penn National Golf Course.
Spending time with family was the joy of his life. No bigger smile was had then when he was with his grand and great grandchildren. He enjoyed socializing, reminiscing and telling stories with family and friends (old and new).
Jack was a member of Mongul United Brethren Church. He enjoyed playing various sports from childhood, through high school/college and beyond to his final golf outing with his beloved daughter and granddaughter in October 2023. His hobbies included riding horses, hunting, fishing and golf. His interests varied, including a stint as a pheasant farmer and his passion for picking and eating local orchard fruit for and with family and friends.
Jack is survived by his son Jack “Jay” Nye of Baltimore, MD; his daughter Tracy (John) Sult of Baltimore, MD; his granddaughter Kelsey (Colin) Wali and great-grandchildren Wynn Rose and Desmond Alexander Wali all of Germantown, MD; one sister Judy Cassner of Shippensburg; his companion Fay Black of Orrstown and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife and love of his life for 56 and one-half years, Donna Mae Nye, and his brothers Robert Jay Nye and Larry Allen Nye.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Shippensburg followed by a memorial service at 4 p.m. The Rev. Brent Liechty will be officiating. A private burial will be held the following day at Parklawns Memorial Gardens for family only.
