Irene M. Shoul

Irene M. Shoul, 88, of Chambersburg, departed this life on the morning of Sunday, June 1, 2025, in the WellSpan York Hospital.

She was born on May 21, 1937, in Baltimore, MD, a daughter of the late Francis and Jane (Hedley) Koubek. Irene married James R. “Jim” Shoul on February 4, 1956 in Govans, MD.

Irene worked as a bus driver for McDonough High School in McDonough, MD. She was a member of Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church, Shippensburg.

Irene grew up in the city and it instilled in her an incredible and self-sufficient work ethic. Irene loved to travel, was always full of fun, and could adapt to anyone, or any situation. Around the house, she could do and fix just about anything. She excelled at yard work, painting, minor construction, and auto mechanics to be able to work on her own cars. Irene and Jim had a nice collection of cars over the years and were members of several car clubs including the Studebaker Drivers Club, A.A.C.A Car Club, and the Mason Dixon Car Club, to name a few. Irene had a wonderful and outgoing personality and left an impression on most everyone that she met.

In addition to her husband of sixty-nine years, James, she is survived by her son, Jaime S. Shoul of Hanover; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Nancy Lee Storck.

Her memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church, Shippensburg.  Father Ben Dunkelberger will officiate.  Visitation will be one-half hour prior to Mass on Tuesday morning at the church.  Interment will be private.
