Gerald S. “Jerry” Lyons, 80, of Shippensburg, departed this life the morning of Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at his home.

He was born on Tuesday, October 24, 1944 in Carlisle, the son of the late Howard William and Emma Katherine (Eichelberger) Lyons. He married Mary Susan McLeaf on September 4, 1971 in the Memorial Lutheran Church, Shippensburg.

Jerry was a 1962 graduate of the Shippensburg High School and earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Shepherd College in 1967. In 1974, Jerry became a full partner in Pague & Fegan Home & Hardware with his father, Howard. In 1980, he became the sole owner. Jerry owned and operated the hardware store for the next 35 years, retiring in 2015.

Jerry was a member of the Memorial Lutheran Church, Chambersburg Country Club, and Cumberland Valley Lodge #315 Free & Accepted Masons. He was a supporter of the Shippensburg University Foundation and was active in Downtown Organizations Investing Together (D.O.I.T.). A sports enthusiast, Jerry played tennis in his younger years and had an enduring passion for golf, where he continued to play well into his later life. Jerry was a skilled woodworker and found joy in music, often playing the piano and guitar. His greatest happiness came from traveling and sharing a life with his beloved wife, Susan.

In addition to his wife of 53 years, Mary Susan Lyons, he is survived by two sons, Gregory Matthew Lyons and wife Tiffany of Raleigh, NC, and Douglas Michael Lyons of Shippensburg; one daughter, Jamie Empert of Atlanta, GA; five grandchildren, Jackson, Carson, Fiona, Adelyn, and Nora Lyons; one sister, Linda Jean Lyons of Chantilly, VA; and one nephew, Michael Young of Chantilly, VA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey Ross Lyons, who passed away on October 30, 2017. Jerry was also preceded in death by an infant brother, Ralph Howard Lyons.

His memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at the Memorial Lutheran Church, Shippensburg. Rev. Godfred Effisah will officiate. Interment in Spring Hill Cemetery will be private. A visitation will be held the morning of the service from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Church. Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. has been entrusted with his funeral arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Lutheran Church, 34 E. Orange St., Shippensburg, PA 17257 or Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Rd. W., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
