Galen Lee Myers, 86, of Chambersburg, passed away the evening of Monday, June 30, 2025 at the Orrstown Personal Care Home.
He was born on Wednesday, November 30, 1938 in Shippensburg, PA, Cumberland County, a son of the late Leroy Andrew and Caroline Emma Snoke Myers. He married Sandra Kay Holtry on November 18, 1962.
Galen was a 1956 graduate of the Shippensburg Area High School and earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Penn State University in 1960. After completing Officer Basic School at Quantico, VA, Galen was assigned to the 3rd Marine Division in Okinawa, Japan as the Motor Transport Officer for the 3rd Anti-Tank Bn at Camp Schwab. Galen joined the Reserves in Harrisburg, PA in July of 1963 until being discharged as a 1st Lieutenant on May 17, 1966.
Galen started his working career at the Beistle Company in Shippensburg in June of 1962 as a payroll clerk and salesman. When he left in March of 1973, he was the production superintendent and assistant plant superintendent. From August 1970 to October 1975, he was self-employed as a Travel Trailer and Sporting Goods Dealer in Orrstown, PA. From August 1974 to May 1977, Galen was employed as a Senior Buyer for Ingersoll-Rand Co., Compaction Division. He then went on to work as a General Manager for E.B. Kearns Lumber Co. in Carlisle from June 1977 to November 1988. He was also a Director for Orrstown Bank and Orrstown Financial Services, Inc. from January 1978 to April 1998, serving as Chairman of The Board of Directors for the last ten years. Galen was also self-employed as an Accountant and Income Tax Preparer in Orrstown from February 1989 to December 1998. He retired in January of 1999, with the exception for income tax season, when he would work as an independent contractor for two of his daughters who purchased his accounting business.
He was a member of the Lurgan Lions Club, Orrstown Lodge #262 Free & Accepted Masons, and attended the King Street Church in Chambersburg. Galen was an avid Penn State football fan, especially the Joe Paterno era. He enjoyed traveling, coin collecting, and playing cards with his friends. Galen was a family-oriented man who loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events; he was their biggest fan.
In addition to his wife of 62 years, Sandy K. Myers, he is survived by four children, Wendy Funck of Rehoboth Beach, DE, Michelle (Ed) Banachoski of Annapolis, MD, Todd (Katrina) Myers of Orrstown, and Trina (Tony) Brookens of Orrstown; seven grandchildren, Gregory (Kelly) Funck of Fayetteville, Joshua (Amanda) Banachoski of Virginia Beach, Jessica Banachoski of Annapolis, MD, Ethan Banachoski of Annapolis, MD, Colton Myers of Orrstown, Timber Brookens of Orrstown, and Tori Brookens of Hampton, VA; and three great-grandchildren, Bryce Banachoski and Grady Banachoski, both of Virginia Beach, and Porter Banachoski of Annapolis, MD.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Merle Myers.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. with Pastor Ron Cook officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
