Evelyn M. Reed, 72, of Shermans Dale, departed this life on the afternoon of Thursday, July 2, 2026, at the U.P.M.C. West Shore Hospital.
She was born on January 20, 1954, in Chambersburg, a daughter of the late Herman P. and Esther E. (Hockenberry) Bechtel. Evelyn married Leo D. Reed, Jr., on November 26, 2010, in Martinsburg, WV.
Evelyn managed Dollar General stores in the Shippensburg area, worked for Auto Zone for a period of time, and most recently was employed as a driver for Cumberland Valley Car Service. In her free time she enjoyed reading, cooking, going to BINGO, and most importantly spending time with her family.
In addition to her husband of sixteen years, Leo, she is survived by three step-daughters, Jennifer Lynn Sleasman of Blairsville, Valerie Ann Ellis of Martinsburg, and Chrissy Lee Riggs of Virginia Beach; seven step-grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; three brothers, Lee Bechtel of Shippensburg, Dennis Bechtel of Upper Horse Valley, and Daryl Bechtel of Shippensburg; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her daughter, Michelle Renae Adams; her son, Gregory Allen Adams, II; two siblings, Oscar P. Bechtel and Barbara A. (Bechtel) Bryan; and three nephews, Darren L. Bryan, Oscar P. “Tucker” Bechtel, II, and Joel Johnson.
Her funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor J.R. Wells will officiate. Interment will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery, at a later date. Visitation will be one hour prior to her memorial service on Thursday afternoon at the funeral home.
