Emory Hamman

March 21, 1940 — December 30, 2020

Emory C. Hamman, 80, of Shippensburg passed away the evening of Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at the UPMC Pinnacle Carlisle Hospital.

He was born Thursday, March 21, 1940 in Huntingdon, a son of the late Earl and Mary Irene (Hershey) Hamman.

Emory was a self-employed farmer for all of his working life, farming alongside his late father-in-law, Bruce Martin. He took great pride in his John Deere equipment, especially his extensive showcase of tractors which he accumulated over the years in gifts from his family.

Emory enjoyed providing transportation to the Mennonite Community and all the friendships he created over the years in doing so. Emory never met a stranger and was truly a people person. He enjoyed sitting in front of his picture window, watching the deer feed in his fields. Emory was also an avid fan of Gunsmoke and The Andy Griffith Show.

He was a member of the South Newton Volunteer Fire Company #49 and the Trinity United Methodist Church, Walnut Bottom.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy Hamman; one son, Earl Hamman of Shippensburg; three grandchildren, Zachary (Blair Marie) Hamman and Hillary (companion JonLuc Hailey) Hamman, both of Shippensburg, and Emily (Brandon) Bear of Carlisle; four great grandchildren, Harper, Parker, and Blake Hamman, and Zuri Cooper; and three siblings, Ann (Don Hockensmith) Hackenberg and Clair Marie (John) Pisle, both of Chambersburg, and Thurman (Kathleen) Hamman of Ft. Loudon.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by eight brothers, Arthur, Paul, Gerald, Cecil, Howard, Fred, Bill, and Ronald Hamman, and four sisters, Cora Rogers, Margaret White, Winifred Peters, and Myrtle Faye Faust.

His funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. Rev. Robert E. Stump will officiate. Emory will be laid to rest in the Spring Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Those in attendance are asked to observe the recommendations pertaining to reducing the potential spread of Covid-19; wearing masks, hand sanitizing, and social distancing as much as possible.
