Eldora Effie Gleim

Eldora Effie Gleim, 90, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the afternoon of Friday, June 6, 2025, at the WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital.

She was born on May 1, 1935, in Elizabethtown, a daughter of the late Mervin M. and Mary E. (Reider) Fansler, Sr. Eldora married James E. Gleim, Sr., on February 5, 1954, in Oberlin. He preceded her in death on August 4, 2017.

Early in life, Eldora worked as a telephone switchboard operator and seamstress, however after marriage and starting a family she transitioned into being a homemaker. Her passion was her family and as such, there could hardly have been a more selfless, self-sacrificing person as a spouse, mother, and grandmother. Eldora loved and served her family immensely in all ways. She was also well known for choosing the most appropriate cards for birthdays, anniversaries, etc., for her family and friends. You could always count on receiving a heartfelt card from Eldora.

She attended the Prince Street United Brethren Church, Shippensburg, and was a person of strong faith who read her bible and prayed every single day. In her free time Eldora enjoyed tending to her extensive flower beds and she was also very good at crafting and art, especially painting and drawing.

She is survived by five sons, James E. Gleim, Jr., and wife Cindy of Middletown, Jeffrey E. Gleim and wife Tina of Wellsville, John E. Gleim and wife Diane of Grantville, Kenneth L Gleim and wife Christine of Hanover, and Robert A. Gleim and wife Faith of Bellefonte; one daughter, Debra E. Stine and husband Robert of Biglerville; five grandchildren, Christine, Janelle, Jennifer, Danielle, and Kenneth; two sisters, La Rue Miller and Esther Snook; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and spouse, Eldora was preceded in death by numerous brothers and sisters.
