Dr. Ramsay MacDonald MacKenzie, 93, of Shippensburg, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2023 at his daughter’s home in Shippensburg.
Born Saturday, October 12, 1929 in New Castle, PA, he was a son of the late James Rees and Bessie Mae Evans MacKenzie.
He was a United States Navy Veteran serving in the Korean War. He was a member of the Shippensburg Presbyterian Church, where he was a Church School Teacher, served on the Board of Trustees, Board of Elders, and Sunday School Superintendent.
Dr. MacKenzie was a 1948 graduate of Beaver Falls Senior High School. He received his B.S. Degree in 1955 from Geneva College, Beaver Falls, PA. He received his D.D.S. and D.M.D. in 1959 from the University of Pittsburgh.
He was a member of the American Dental Association, PA Dental Association, Past President & Secretary of Fifth District Dental Association, Past President of the Cumberland Valley Dental Association, and Past member of the Dental Surgical Staff at the Chambersburg Hospital.
Dr. MacKenzie was past President of the Shippensburg Area School Board, past member of the Shippensburg Lions Club, the Durff-Kuhn VFW Post # 6168, and the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223, both in Shippensburg, and the Chambersburg Elks Lodge # 600.
He is survived by two daughters, Kathryn M. (Christopher) Varner, Shippensburg, and Linda M. Murphy, Charlottesville, VA; two step sons, William E. (Lory) Naugle, III, and Robert E. (Diane) Naugle, Sr., both of Shippensburg; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Ann Estermyer MacKenzie who died February 1, 1981, his second wife, Lois Heberlig Naugle MacKenzie who died June 4, 2005, two brothers, James and Edward MacKenzie; and three sisters, Margaret Wilson, Sally Brown, and Florence MacKenzie.
A private graveside service will be held in Spring Hill Cemetery, with Mother Barbara A. Hutchinson as Celebrant.
