Dr. Blaine Shover

October 26, 1942 — January 13, 2022

Blaine F. Shover, loving father, ex-husband, and Pappy, drew his last breath on January 13th, 2022, mainly, we suspect, to prevent himself from having to watch one more Hallmark Christmas movie forced upon him by his daughter.

Blaine was a Professor of Music at Shippensburg University and recently retired as the conductor of the Concert Choir and Madrigal Singers, a position he held for over 40 years. He served as the Artistic Director of the Summer Music Festival, a series of three concerts presented by the Festival Symphony, an orchestra comprised of professional musicians who come together from various states to perform with world-renowned soloists and guest conductors. He is the founder-director of the S.U. Festival Chamber Choir, an ensemble of 30 professional vocalists.

He currently served as Choir Director at Memorial Lutheran Church and formerly served as Choir Director at Christ United Methodist Church, both of Shippensburg, as well as conductor of the Towne Singers, a community choir based in Chambersburg, PA. He is also the founder and former Director of the Concord Chamber Singers of Bethlehem, PA, a touring ensemble that has performed extensively in Europe.

He holds the Bachelor of Music degree from Penn State University, the Master of Music Degree from Temple University, and the Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from the University of Illinois.

He loved his sisters Lynne and Donna, as well as his brother-in-law, Brian, so very much. His best productions to date were his children London and Chelsea- impossibly good-looking and even more humble. The light of his life was his 20-month old grandson Tadhg McCartney- equally as good-looking, but much less humble. In all seriousness, his family will miss him every day, every hour, every minute. His children would like to thank their mother Catherine, for helping to take care of Blaine throughout his illness and for being there for his last breath.

The family would like to extend their condolences to his students, members of his various choirs and his colleagues who became his extended family.

We love you madly, Daddio.

A celebration of Blaine’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2022 in the Luhrs Performing Arts Center on the campus of Shippensburg University.

Chelsea and London suggest that memorial contributions in Blaine’s honor be made to The Blaine F. Shover Scholarship at Shippensburg University, at the Shippensburg University Foundation, 500 Newburg Road, Shippensburg, PA 17257or at https://tinyurl.com/DrBlaineShoverScholarship.
