Dorothy “Jean” Thomas, 89, of Shippensburg, passed away the morning of Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the Shippensburg Health Care Center with her loving family by her side.
She was born on November 12, 1936, in Chambersburg, a daughter of the late Parker M. and Dorothy E. Neff Russell.
Jean worked as a secretary for the Dean of Education and Human Services at Shippensburg University, where she was active both during her working years and in retirement. She dedicated many years of service to the Shippensburg University Foundation and Shippensburg University Band. Jean was a member of Shippensburg First Church of God and in her younger years was active in the Shippensburg Civic Club and was a den mother for Cub Scouts. Jean also dedicated over 40 years volunteering with the Shippensburg Fair Association.
She is survived by three children, Richard E. “Rick” (Sharon) Thomas, Jr., Kathy J. (Greg) Coy, and Constance E. Thomas, all of Shippensburg; five grandchildren, Claudia (Jeff) Garner, Michelle Thomas McConnell, Bryan (Jocelyn) Coy, Timothy (Katey) Coy, and Heidi (Trenton) Kaiser; eight great-grandchildren, Caden, Carly, Peyton, Addyson, Tegan, Easton, Cayson, and Bennett; and two sisters, Arlene Carney of Chambersburg, and Sharon (Ray) Shuman of Shippensburg.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard E. “Dick” Thomas, Sr., who passed away on March 16, 2014.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at 12:00 noon at Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg with Pastor Rodney Bistline officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be held Tuesday, March 3, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
