Curtis L. “Curt” Cramer, 68, of Shippensburg, formerly of Newburg, died on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at the Mercy House of Chambersburg.
Born August 6, 1957, he was the son of Carl L. Cramer and Glenda (Truax) Cramer.
He attended Newburg Elementary School and graduated from Shippensburg High School in 1975. Curt went to Harrisburg Area Community College for a year, majoring in Police Administration and Police Science. While going to college, Curt was an emergency police, fire and ambulance dispatcher for the Shippensburg area, the old 556. Curt decided to enlist in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Germany for two and a half years. Upon his return to the United States, he was stationed at Fort Meade, Maryland to finish out his four-year enlistment. After the Army, Curt worked for the Keg Restaurant and Lounge in Shippensburg. When the business closed, he decided to work for his father’s insurance agency until his father retired. Curt and his brother Matthew “Matt” Cramer then took over the agency and was Principal Agent from 2000-2019. Curt was a licensed, loyal Erie agent for over 35 years. He also was co-owner of the former Knutes Bar & Grill in Shippensburg.
Curt was deeply involved in his community. He was a member of the following: Newburg United Methodist Church, Orrstown Lodge #262 Free & Accepted Masons, Harrisburg Consistory, Shippensburg Scottish Rite Club, Valley Forest #145 Tall Cedars, Downtown Organizations Investing Together (D.O.I.T.)-current president, CV Hose Co., West End Fire & Rescue Co., Vigilant Hose Co., Newburg-Hopewell Volunteer Fire Co., Shippensburg Police Foundation, AARP, Shippensburg Fish & Game, Newburg Memorial Day Committee, Raiders Club (past president), Minutemen of the American Legion Post #223 (45 years), Independent Order of Odd Fellows, SASHS Veteran Breakfast club, Corvette Club-Cumberland County. Curt was a past president of the Shippensburg Little League, Newburg Boro Council, S.A.L., and volunteered at the Luhrs Center.
Curt was an avid Penn State and Shippensburg fan, and enjoyed watching baseball and football. A love for the outdoors, he enjoyed hunting, laying by the pool, and cooking on the grill. Above all else, Curt was a family-oriented man who loved and cherished spending time with his family. His pride and joy was his granddaughter, Enslee.
Curt is survived by his wife of 43 years, Catherine H. “Cathe” (Clever) Cramer, whom he married on October 16, 1982; two children, Andrew Cramer and companion Heather Ridgely of Shippensburg and Jennifer Cramer of Wabash, IN; one granddaughter, Enslee Cramer; three siblings, Leigh R. Fogelsanger and companion Joe Loy of Newburg, Michael L. Cramer and wife Wendy of Newburg, and Matthew Cramer and wife Kimberly of Shippensburg; three brothers-in-law, Jeff Garvin and wife Diane of SC, Kyle Garvin and wife Kari of CA, and Tony Clever of Ft. Loudon; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the Newburg United Methodist Church. Pastor Dale Miller will officiate. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery with military honors conducted by The Minutemen of the American Legion Post #223. A viewing will be held at Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium on Monday, April 27, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with Masonic Services conducted at 7:30 p.m. A viewing will also be held one hour prior to the funeral service on Tuesday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Minutemen of the American Legion Post #223, 100 Dykeman Rd., Shippensburg, PA 17257 or the Mercy House of Chambersburg, 730 Norland Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
