Charles Lewis Hill, 80, of Shippensburg, passed away into his eternal home on the afternoon of Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital, following an extended progressive illness. He died peacefully with his family by his side.

He was born on April 13, 1946, in New Haven, Connecticut, a son of the late Charles Frederick and Ruth E. (Coldsmith) Hill. Lewis was a 1964 graduate of Shippensburg Senior High School and attended Robert Morris Junior College, where he majored in business.

Lewis made his home in Shippensburg, where he built a life centered on family, faith, friendships, and community. He shared 59 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Linda Marie (Hawk) Hill. Together, they built a family that remained the center of his life. Lewis was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, remembered for his generous spirit and willingness to give to others, often to a fault.

His love for his family was evident in the many ways he supported them. One could almost always find Lewis's familiar face in the crowd at any event where his children or grandchildren were performing. Whether on stage, on a field, or wherever their talents took them, he was there, proudly cheering them on. Lewis's presence was a constant reminder that he was always in their corner.

For many years, Lewis was the co-owner of Beedle's Flower Shop in Shippensburg. Flowers were more than just his business; they were a passion. He possessed an extraordinary artistic talent for arranging flowers, transforming them into beautiful creations. His appreciation for flowers and the artistry involved in working with them was a special part of who he was, and his friends and relatives were fortunate to enjoy the beauty of his work. He also enjoyed growing indoor and outdoor plants.

In later years, Lewis worked for PPG Industries, from which he retired. He also held various part-time positions over the years, including employment at JLG, serving as a school bus driver for the Shippensburg Area School District, and working at Cracker Barrel and the Treat.

Lewis was a member of First United Methodist Church and a Master Mason of George Washington Lodge No. 143 F. & A.M. for more than 50 years, where he was serving as a trustee. He also enjoyed working the election polls at the Oasis of Love location.

In addition to his wife of 59 years, Linda, Lewis is survived by his children, Charles Edward Hill and wife Anne of Chambersburg; Matthew Lewis Hill and wife Gretchen of West Virginia; Miriam Ruth Rowena (Hill) Carbaugh and husband Donald of Chambersburg; and David Brett Hill of Shippensburg.

He is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Gavin, Lewis, Roland, and Kimble Veasey, all of New Hampshire; Elijah Hill of Chambersburg; Elizabeth Hill of Dillsburg; Gideon Hill and Alex Hill, both of Chambersburg; Mia Carbaugh and Zoe Carbaugh, both of Chambersburg; and Kristin Hill and Kaylynn Hill, both of West Virginia.

Also surviving are his sister, Linda L. Rhine of Chambersburg; his brother, Larry E. Hill of Fayetteville; his son-in-law, Craig Veasey, husband of his late daughter Nancy; his daughter-in-law, Denise (Cassidy) Hill, wife of his late son Stephen; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Lewis was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Lynn Veasey; a son, Stephen John Hawk Hill; and a sister, Mildred E. Mathna.

Lewis will be remembered for his generosity, his artistic gifts, his devotion to his family, and the unmistakable way he showed up for the people he loved. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the beauty he created, and the countless lives he touched throughout his 80 years.

A celebration of life will be held in the near future at the First United Methodist Church in Chambersburg. There will be no visitation prior to the service. Interment will take place at Spring Hill Cemetery at a later date.
