Charles Ray Hartman, Sr., 84, of Shippensburg, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2025 at the Mercy House of Chambersburg, surrounded by his loving family.
Born Thursday, July 25, 1940 in Quincy, Franklin County, he was a son of the late Mildred Louise Hartman.
He was a 1958 graduate of the Quincy High School, and a 1962 graduate of West Chester University. After graduation, Charles taught Health and Physical Education at Shippensburg High School, retiring in 1992.
Charles was very involved with PIAA track and field, and cross country track. He loved woodworking, and named his work Eagle Woodwork. He loved vacationing in Florida and Maine, with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving are five children, Charles Ray Hartman, Jr., Anthony Wayne Hartman, Ann Louise Hartman, Wendy Lea Hartman, and Teena Joy Bigler; three step children, Belinda Sue Brown, Sandra Jean Paisley, and Treva Marie Bailey; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Emelyn Weigle Hartman; and step son Stanley Helm.
A celebration of life service will be held Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium Inc., with Pastor Philip Steele officiating. Burial will be private in Mt. Zion Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Tuesday, at the funeral home.
