Carl L. Johnson

Carl L. Johnson, 84, of Shippensburg, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at the Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Saturday, February 14, 1942, in Carlisle, he was the son of the late James Oliver Johnson and Argoretta Mae (Foltz) Lute.

Carl was previously employed by Anne Arundel County, Maryland, as a water treatment plant operator. In his younger years he developed a love for playing golf while caddying at the Carlisle Country Club. He also enjoyed playing tennis and ping pong. Carl also enjoyed spending time on weekends watching the boats in the Annapolis harbor. Throughout his life he enjoyed trips to Atlantic City and Las Vegas to gamble, and more recently he liked to gamble locally at the Parx Casino in Shippensburg. He loved tinkering around the house and garage, creating and fixing things with his hands, often coming up with clever solutions to make everyday life a little easier.

Carl is survived by four children, Jeannine C. (Joseph) Strauss of Mechanicsburg, Richard C. (Cherry) Johnson of Egg Harbor Twp., NJ, Teresa J. (James) Vaughn of New Cumberland, and Brian A. (Jeanne) Johnson of Mt. Airy, MD; 10 Grandchildren; and 14 Great-Grandchildren.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents.

Per Carl's wishes, there will be no public viewing, visitation, or service.
