Bernita E. Killian, 92, of Shippensburg, PA, went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 11, 2025. Born on March 11, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Mark and Dorothy (Burkholder) Killian.
A 1951 graduate of Carlisle High School, Bernita dedicated her entire career to serving the community as a manager at Woolworths in Carlisle, where she was a beloved presence for many years. She was known for her strong work ethic and dedication to her job.
Bernita was a devoted member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Shippensburg, PA, where she was an active participant in church life. She also found great joy in supporting local nonprofits, especially Katie's Place, where she contributed her time and efforts to make a lasting impression on the organization.
Bernita was an avid lover of flowers, taking great joy in tending to her garden. She also enjoyed bowling and playing bingo, activities that brought her much happiness throughout her life.
She is survived by her brother, Leroy Killian (wife Peggy) of Shippensburg; her nieces Natalie (Richard) Tardosky of Chambersburg, Melissa (Thomas) Steinour of Shippensburg, and Kristi (Joshua) Junker of Gloucester, VA; and nine great-nephews and great-nieces.
For the last five years of her life, Bernita was a resident of Celebration Villa in Shippensburg, where she truly thrived. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff for their exceptional care and devotion during her time there. The family would also like to thank Grane Hospice for their compassion and support during her final days.
A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Katie’s Place in Shippensburg, PA, to continue the work Bernita so deeply cared for.
