Bernice F. Garland

Bernice F. (Nye) Garland went home to be with her Lord and Savior on the afternoon of Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at the age of 89 years young.

Bernice was a lifelong resident of the borough of Newburg - a place she was proud to call home. Born, raised, and residing in the same home until her health required her to move to another facility. Bernice is survived by her cherished and beloved husband of 58 years - Jeremiah (Jerry) Garland. Preceding her in death were her parents Leland and Alta (Heberlig) Nye, her brother William Nye, and one child that was miscarried.

Bernice enjoyed many things - none more than her church family - as a member of Greenspring First Church of God she enjoyed participating in the Living Christmas Tree. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Newburg Hopewell Fire Department. Bernice graduated from Shippensburg Area School District in 1955. Bernice’s hobbies included crocheting and hand stitch quilting. When her hands needed a break, you would find her reading a book, picking at the keys on her piano, making food for her neighbors or friends in need, or sitting on her porch watching traffic go by. One of her favorite foods was ice cream.

Services for Bernice will be held at Green Spring First Church of God on Monday, August 11, 2025. Visitation will start at 2 pm and the funeral service will be at 3 pm and will be followed by an ice cream social. A private burial at the convenience of the family will occur at Spring Hill Cemetery in Shippensburg, PA.
