Aida D. Hovetter, age 105, of Walnut Bottom, passed away at Chapel Pointe Nursing Home on Thursday, September 28, 2023.
She was born on Friday, December 21, 1917 in Walnut Bottom, a daughter of the late Samuel and Ruth (Campbell) Devore.
Aida was a graduate of Shippensburg High School and Joyce Art Beauty Culture College. She served in the Women’s Army Corps as a Corporal during World War II and was stationed in Miami, Florida. She was an active, life-long member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Walnut Bottom and a member of Jacksonville EUB Church prior to its merger with Rehobeth Methodist Church. She was active as a leader in the Walnut Bottom Girl Scout and Brownie Troops and served for many years as the Treasurer of the United Methodist Women. She worked as the secretary for Snoke’s Excavating and Paving in Walnut Bottom for many years.
She was dedicated to her family and church, and baked the best pies around.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, J. Earl Hovetter; her brothers, John, Charles, and Rodney; and her sisters, Evelyn, Edna, and Lois.
She is survived by one son, Joseph E. (Vanessa) Hovetter; two daughters, Susan (Michael) Hartman and Judith (Gray Mercer) Hovetter; four grandsons, Joseph E. Hovetter III, Justin Hovetter, Trevor Otto, and John Workman; two granddaughters, Valerie Hovetter and Rachel Mercer; five great-grandchildren, Calvin N’Koue, Jacques N’Koue, Emersen Hovetter, Booker Hovetter, and Devon Otto; one sister, Carrie Glass; and numerous nieces and nephews and their children.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Walnut Bottom. Rev. Robert E. Stump will officiate. Burial with military honors conducted by The Minutemen of the American Legion Post #223 will follow in the Hays Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 6, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
