Everyone has that one person that made a difference throughout their like and without a doubt Rosey was that person for me. He took interest in me as a skinny 8 yr old kid-drafted me to be on his team -the Braves-taught us baseball but more importantly about life!! We practiced hard everyday and when we made mistakes he raised his voice but never to bring you down but to encourage you to make you better!! The day that changed everything for me was at a practice when I was on the All Star team. Rosey, hitting grounders to the infield between pitches for batting practice, he hit one my way at first base. I missed it as well as the next one . Let me tell you, when Rosey hit grounders, they were hard shots coming at you and ended up at the fence at Doc Norcross in right field. The first time , the right fielder got it for me. The second one he told told the right fielder to let it go and have me run and get it. Running back with tears in my eyes, I had a decision to make-run all night to retrieve missed grounders or learn how to field. Rosey rifled shots at me the rest of the night and I never ran after another ball. I learned to field that night. As embarrassing as that may sound, it was the day that changed my life. He knew what I could do and had confidence in me. I had to get that confidence which he instilled in me that night- a confidence the is with me to this day!!!! I'm glad I was able to tell him this in person not too long ago and I just wanted to say that all his time and effort did MADE ALL THE DIFFERANCE in a skinny little kids life!!!!! Thanks Rosey!! So very sorry your loss! I just found out about it today (September 14). I'm glad I got to see him at the Cafe with Gerry & Lorraine and of course, Sandy. I always wished to spend some more time with him, but with life, there is a misconception that we have more time. Time is fleeting. I didn't know Gerald as well as I would have liked, but I do remember him as one handsome lad in the photos that grandma had of him. God Bless all of you during this difficult time. A note to Lorraine; I'm so glad you had the opportunity to meet him and Gerry (and the families). Please know you are all in my thoughts. My own son is an Air Force Veteran! Go Air Force! Sincerely, Tammy.
